Long-term Contract Position Open in Europe

CDISC Europe Foundation (CEF) is a partner in a number of the Innovative Medicines Initiatives (IMI) in Europe. Project Manager:

The Project Manager (PM), Standards Development will lead, or contribute to leadership and development of CDISC therapeutic area standards. The PM will be have overall operational responsibility for leading one or more projects and be responsible for scoping and initiating, leading teams, tracking and reporting project status and completing deliverables as necessary to complete projects on time and within budget. The PM will also help define business processes, tools and training material to improve the effectiveness of other CDISC standards development teams, and provide other assistance as necessary to facilitate the development of new or enhanced CDISC standards. At a minimum CDISC is looking for creative, self-starters for the PM role that have at least five years of experience in clinical research, monitoring, data management or clinical project management. Metadata Developer, Standards Development:

The Metadata Developer will have the primary responsibility for defining SDTM and CDASH standards, gaining consensus and ensuring that the standards are consistent with the SDTM and implementable by data managers and programmers. Metadata developers will use mind maps and templates to model key research concepts relevant to clinical research and their relationships, engage clinical subject matter experts to ensure clinical meaningfulness of the concepts under development, and develop detailed metadata specifications and example data that can be represented as CDISC standards and eventually included in the SHARE metadata repository. CDISC is looking for creative self-starters with at least five years of experience in data management, reporting, protocol and CRF development. CDISC SHARE Metadata Curator:

CDISC is seeking a SHARE Metadata Curator who will be responsible for the creation, maintenance, curation and quality assurance of CDISC standard metadata in the SHARE Metadata Repository and lead CDISC teams developing metadata in SHARE. Candidates should be experienced in the use of clinical research data, terminologies and CDISC standards and have experience using one or more systems related to clinical data management. The Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer Science among UK Universities. It has consistently been awarded the highest research rating (5*) in Research Assessment Exercises (RAE), coming 2nd in the 2008 RAE, and was rated as “Excellent” in the previous national assessment of teaching quality.

The Discovery Sciences Group has vacancies for two Research Assistants / Associates to work alongside Professor Yike Guo and his team on the eTRIKS project (Delivering European Translation Information & Knowledge Management Services) funded by the EU IMI (Innovative Medicines Initiative). The group has a successful track record of research at the interface between computing, statistics, mathematics and biology.

eTRIKS (www.etriks.org) is an ongoing project that is developing a knowledge management software infrastructure to manage clinical studies of new drug treatments and perform bioinformatics analysis in areas such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics. The platform is extending and building on existing open source software including the award winning tranSMART (transmartfoundation.org) clinical study management platform. This is one of the largest informatics projects in the world.

The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the development or implementation of integration, analysis and visualisation methods for high-throughput data, with a particular emphasis on data produced via next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, as well as consulting and collaborating with partner biomedical research projects on data analysis. You will be expected to fully collaborate with team members to develop and provide software; writing clean, well structured, documented code following good software engineering practices; reusing and developing code libraries to promote the long-term sustainability of the developed software platform; providing training/support to technical and non-technical end-users; contributing to the dissemination of work within the group and also externally at national and international conferences by presentation, publication and demonstration.

To apply you should have a track record of biomedical research with solid knowledge of bioinformatics. The ability to conduct and complete research projects, working knowledge of modern statistical programming languages (e.g R, MatLab) and programming languages (e.g. Java, Perl, Python); demonstrated working with SQL databases.

At Research Assistant level you will have a good first degree or Masters (or equivalent) in a related area. At Research Associate level you will have a PhD (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, biology, computer science, or informatics or significant software development experience with an emphasis on large-scale scientific data management.
