RA-MAP Case Study

Helping Projects to Help Themselves

The Challenge

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic and debilitating disease, but for some patients remission can be achieved if the diagnosis is made early enough. RA-MAP is a project funded through the UK MRC looking at patients with early disease indications and those at high risk of developing the disease to understand what factors are involved in remission and how to leveraged it early enough to make a significant difference to clinical outcomes. The project is looking at existing data and has begun its own longitudinal observational study, Towards A Cure for Early Rheumatoid Arthritis - TACERA. The TACERA study will build a picture of therapy response for hundreds of patients across 30 sites and 18 months of observations. Bringing all these data together in a consistent and reliable way is a major challenge for the project.

The eTRIKS solution

Working with RA-MAP is an example of eTRIKS helping a project to help itself. eTRIKS provides training and support in system set-up and administration, modeling and curating data sets and helping analysts get the best insights out of their analyses. New data types have needed to be incorporated, and data modeling for RA-MAP’s flow cytometry, microRNA and metabolomics data have lead to major advances in the capabilities of tranSMART. Throughout, the process the data remain under the full control of RA-MAP.
